Alexander Hines moved to Shelby County in 1936. He worked at Flat Rock Canning Co. with Walter O’Neel to create pumpkin processing equipment for the cannery. He then moved to Diamond Tooling where he designed the Pork Depositor and Stripper. This machine was invented and patented by Hines, and the first machine used to cut pork into tiny cubes to put inside cans of pork and beans. Before this machine, the work was done manually by 3-6 people.
