c. 1863. Sheet iron. Tintype. Subject is female, possibly late 40's. About 3/4 view, body & face square to camera, seated in chair w/ right arm (reversed image) resting on a book. Dark hair parted in middle, down over ears & secured behind head, appears to be wearing netting on back of head. Plaid long-sleeved dress. Appears to be dark insertions between elbow & shoulder. Dress has 7 buttons on bodice & high belt. Has lace collar. Hand coloring red in cheeks, gold for earrings, brooch at neck, one finger ring.
