Taken between 1965 and 1968, this photograph shows some of the many changes that took place on the Public Square through the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. The parking meters seen in the image were installed in 1947, a year after the traffic pattern was rerouted to run clockwise around the Square. The Joseph Fountain was removed from the center of the Square in 1965.
Businessses featured in the background of the photograph (from L to R) include Major T. Jester Department Store, Bradley Hall Furniture, F. W. Woolworth Co., Lords Women's Clothing, and Merit Family Shoe Store.Collection
