Scabbard & SwordDescription
Saber style sword and scabbard; scabbard is leather construction except for 2 brass bands screwed on and have rings to secure to belt. Sword originally had a bright finish, somewhat dim wih age. Over half length of blade on both sides decorated in a floral scroll and patriotic symbols and on left side of blade can make out a very faint "U S". The handle is wrapped with rough textured material and fine wire. The hilt guard and butt are brass and connected on underside of handle; guard has filigree work.
Brass plate on scabbard is stamped "AMLR MFG CO/CHICOPEE/MASS' Sword blade has a small "J.H." stamped on right side near hilt guard.Use

Morris was born in Shelbyville in 1830 and lived there until 1843. He organized Company A of the 27th Ohio Regiment, National Guard at the beginning of the Civil War. He later served in the 194th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He returned to Shelbyville in 1875 and opened S.B. Morris and Company. The business was one of the leading dry-goods stores in the county and moved to the Public Square in 1877.Collection
