Two white pillow shams; both have an embroidered "V" in the middle; 1-1/4" hem on all sides; a series of alternating bands on long side, there are 3 bands, each having three 1/4" tucks; 1 band of tucks on bottom and top; remnants of lace edging on all sides.
Pillow shams were buttoned onto backs and held pillows on the bed during the day; set straight up or at an angle against high Victorian headboards; the shams were kept creasless and emmaculate; much time and care went into the stitchery; this pair was edged with wide handmade lace others were edged with plain or tucked ruffles.
