SickleDescription
Iron curved blade; cutting edge beveled, can still see file marks where fils used to sharpen edge; base of blade turns and 90 degrees and the tang is inserted into a wood handle; handle is round and appears to have been carved rather than turned; nail stuck between handle and tang to act as a shim. Sicklles were originally used to harvest wheat and other similar good grasses; after the invention of the grain cradle for this purpose sickles were relegated to occasional use for weed cutting and trimming.Collection
