Inside are compartments to hold chalk, etc. Also a compartment holding 7 study boards such as numbers, words, drawing samples, etc. A full-size board acts as a cover over all the compartments and is inscribed "Delaware Hosea F. Moyer/December 25th, 1883/A present from Mamma at Delaware, Ohio" On the slate: H. F. M.
On back is a label: "Combination #8/Writing and school slate desk/ Patented June 20th 1875 and January 11th & 24th 1877/C.C. Shepherd, New York"Use
