Handle has rounded end and tapers towards dish of spoon; at narrowest point in taper handle flares and divides into 2 times which are riveted to the under side of bowl or dish; there is a upper bowl of dish which matches the lower one; they are hinged together and each part is perforated by 9 rows of holes; the upper portion has a vertical thumb catch to pull that part away from lower portion; there is also a strip of metal which acts as a spring holding two parts in contact. Underside of handle is stamped "PNS" also stamped "MADE IN ENGLAND" also some kind of markers mark but too obscure to describe. Had old collection number 177 and records for it read: "Tea-spoon once the property of Mrs. Sarah Jackson born 1809. Mother of ex-commissioner, Thomas Jackson, owned by grandson Walter Jackson Feb. 9-38 now owned by Priscilla Law" records indicate this was a loan.
