2 stamped metal tags attached to 2 chains; tags are 1-1/8" w x 2" long; one chain is 12" long and other is 2-5/8"; one end of tag has hole drilled for chain,other end notched; both tags stamped "John R. McCrea/0--1058600 T42 43A/P" Standard military identification tags has name, serial number, the "A" refers to blood type and "P" denotes Protestant; commonly referred to as "dog tags" by service personnel; purpose to provide quick info for wounded and ID for deceased. Tags subnumbered 188.024.001 A & B used by John R. McCrea 1919-1981 05/02/19 - These pieces were issued to John McCrea who enlisted in the Army on August 12, 1943 and served until April 11, 1946. McCrea later reinlisted and served in the Korean War. Ribbon Bars are typically worn to symbolize medals awarded to a soldier that would that would not be worn apart from special occasions. McCrea's accommodations include: (Top L to R) American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, (2nd Row L to R) Bronze Star, Army Commendation Metal, Purple Heart, (3rd Row L to R) European, African, Mid-Eastern Campaign, WWII Victory Medal, Occupation Medal, (4th Row L to R) U.N.
