B & W image of a soldier; wearing a Kepi; has officer insignia bars on shoulders; long frock style coat; has sword belt at waist and a sash above the belt; gripping sheath of sword in one hand an hilt in the other; has mustache and chin whiskers hand coloring done to give rank bars, buttons, buckle on belt, and hilt of sword gold color, also sash colored purple; still has a stamped brass mat.
Donor is great-great grandson of Johnathan Keith; according to family history, this is Keith at the time of war with Mexico. However, that does not agree with photo technology; tintypes were not introduced until 10 years after this image was supposedly made.
