Description

Tyopewriter has a steel frame that appears to have a baked on black enamel finish; frame is open so can see all internal working of the machine; key board has round keys with a white surface which have black letters or symbols printed on tehm; the space bar and another smaller bar at the top of the key board are made of wood. Marks: "L.C. Smith & Bros" printed in at least 3 places;; main frame in front of space bar printed in gold letters "L.C. Smith & Bros. Typewriter Co/Made in Syracuse, N.Y. U.S.A." History: typed card inside the carriage read; "l.C. Smith Typewriter-Horses Heads as Trademarks/Belonged to Secretary of Charles Major - Mrs. Batty./Typewriter donated to The Shelby County Historical Society by?Mrs. Frida Bardonner, of Terre House, Indiana. Typewriter was given to Ms. Bardonner by Ms.Beatrice Orbison, of Indianapolis, daughter of Mrs. Batty./Ms. Frida Bardonner also has desk used by Charles Major's Secretary./Itis a 6 drawer, knee hole, walnut. Center top lifts up to accomadate typewriter which is completely concealed when not/in use. This desk will also be donated to the Shelby County Historical Society when Ms. Bardonner is finished with it/Received the typewriter in June 1976 and it will be placed in our/museum whan a place is prepared for it.
