Main part of tool is fashioned from one piece of iron, upper section has squared sides and forms one of the jaws, lower part of piece converted into a round shape approx 21 1/2" long; located where square part turns round are 2 blocks of ironset at 90 degrees to main piece, thses blocks are bolted together and hold another piece of iron fashioned to be the other jaw; inserted into ahole in the arms of the jaws is a atapered sleeve and inserted into the sleeve is a threaded rod, the rod terminates in a ball with a crank through it, this device operates jaws; another piece of oron shaped something like a "U" is located between teh arms, this piece has its upper arms flattened with 2 holes drilled in each arm.
Special function: unsure; but appears as if designed for round rod part of main piece to be set into a stump or similar heavy object; would make vice free standing and allow access to piece being worked on from all angles.
