Coaster wagon; made of wood and painted green; the 4 wheels are made of wood, have 8 spokes and iron straps around the rims; wood running gears also strapped with iron; bed is made of 4 boards bolted to frame with 8 bolts; sides of wagon topped with trim that is 1" on the side rails, 1-1/2" at the back and 2-1/2" at the front; wood handle for pulling and steering the wagon has an iron hand hold on the end; metal hub covers fro wheels are secured with brads put through them and then bent; one of the side rails has lettering reading "Pioneer Coaster"
According to donor, the wagon was purchased in 1920 at the J.G. DePrez Store in Shelbyville, IN by Paul Monroe. He was 6 years old at the time and he paid for the wagon with an installment plan of 25 cents a week. Original cost is unknown. Paul Monroe was the son of Alfred and Ella Monroe who lived south of Wilson's Corners. Donor is Paul Monroe's widow. See 1986.032.002 for photo of Paul Monroe and the wagon.Use
