Mary Shank O'Neal was the daughter of Jacob (1795-1845) and Sarah Sanders Shank. Jacob and Sarah were pioneer settlers of Shelby County and had 11 children. Jacob was a cabinet maker, Shelby County sheriff, and local legislature member. Mary married William S. O'Neal (1830-1879), a U.S. Marshall and later a captain in the American Civil War, on January 16, 1856. The couple had four children, including Emma O'Neal Murphy.Collection
