Description

Dress made of white cotton with horizontal stripe of tiny white satin dots; each stripe three rows of dots. Bodice fitted, short sleeves, round neck in front, neck lower in back and comes to a "V", zipper in back. Full gathered skirt 20.5" long with a 1.5" hem. Set-in 5.5" gathered cummerbund at waist.

by Mary Margaret Davies, for her eigth grade graduation ceremony at Flat Rock School in 1957.

Context

The dress was made for the donor by her grandmother, Orpha Morris Davies (1886-1977). 1957 was the last year that Flat Rock School was a 12-grade school. Beginning in 1958, it was used only for grades 1-6.
