Women's Cream Silk Beaded Wedding Dress

Description

A cream silk wedding dress. The dress has a train of weighted silk (a thicker silk that shredds as it ages) that hangs from the shoulders. The train is trimmed with lace and is attached to intricate hand-beaded pieces that go over the shoulders and wrap around the bust. For the wedding shoes, see: 2017.019.003.

Use

by Lillian Nading DePrez, at her Feb. 8, 1912 wedding to Herbert Berryman Deprez. The dress was later worn by Anne DePrez, to a party in the 1960s. Anne shared that after the party she put it in a bag and it was never pulled out again until the 2016 bridal exhibit.

Context

The following article was published in the February 9, 1912 edition of the Shelbyville Democrat: Pretty Home Wedding Solemnized Last Night Mr. Herbert B. DePrez and Mill Lillian Nading Married at Bride's Home. One of the prettiest home weddings fo the year occured last evening at five o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Nading, 32 East Mechanic St., when their daughter, Lillian and Mr. Herbert B. DePrez were united in marriage. The ceremony was pronounced by the Rev. L.O. Richmond, of Terre Haute, in the presence of the members of the immediate families. The beautiful ring ceremony was used. After the ceremony, the guets partook of a sumptuous wedding supper. The bride and groom left on the Kinickerbocker for Cincinnati and will pay a short visit to a friend of Mrs. DePrez in Tennessee. Mr. DePrez is one of the most prominent of the young business men of this city, being the president of the Daniel DePrez Manufacturing Company. His generous nature and the disposition to always do more than his share where the material upbuilding of Shelbyville was concerned has justly made him legions of friends. The bride is the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nading and is considered one of Shelbyville's prettiest and most accomplished girls. Her lovable disposition and the knack of adapting herself to older companions as well as her own immediate circles has endeared her to all of her acquaintances.
