GULFPORT PUBLIC LIBRARY HISTORY
January, 1935........Beginning of a free library for Gulfport, located in a two-room office building, Delett and Beach Boulevard South.
May, 1935...........Library officially placed under auspices of the City of Gulfport.
February, 1941........Due to continued growth, the library expanded to a five-room bungalow.
June, 1948...........New wing added for a children's room
September, 1953......Second wing added for much needed additional space.
January 26, 1970......Ground breaking for a new library, 5501 28th Avenue South
March 21, 1971.......A memorable day of dedication ceremony for the new Gulfport Public Library, Marie E. Bryan Memorial.Transcriber
