Gulfport Life Saving Class Left to right: Seated, Anna White, Glennis Schultz, Anna Marie Gaskins; standing, Allen Miller, Don Fitzpatrick, James Stambaugh, victim; Julia Jean Gray, lifesaver; Bob Zubrod, Red Cross instructor Plans for the organization of a beach patrol and life saving corps are being worked out by a group of Gulfport citizens. Councilman Wheeler and A. K. Franklin of Gulfport welfare council, co-operating with the Red Cross chapter and the YMCA, organized a life saving class at Gulfport and enrolled 11 young people. Eight of the class passed the respective tests for their ages. Miss Julia Jean Gray not only passed her senior life saving test, but was also recommended as an instructor to teach swimming courses from the beginning through senior life saving. Anna Marie Gaskins, Glennis Schultz and Anna White passed the senior course while Allen Miller, Andrew Post and James Stambaugh were certified as junior life savers. Robert Zubrod, who was in St. Petersburg for two weeks teaching an instructors' class, taught the Gulfport group the special use of the torpedo buoy and surfboard in life saving on a beach. It is hoped that plans will soon be completed to use these young people for supervision of the Gulfport beach during the summer months. Anyone interested in this should contact A. K. Franklin. G.
