"The elegant house at 6261 14th Avenue...was built for Tom Payne, an English-born lumber dealer, in 1926. Just a year or so later, Payne's son died in a plane crash, attempted to equal Lindbergh's nonstop Atlantic crossing, and the house was sold to R.B. Lassing, a financier and champion amateur golfer.
