"Plummets are a group of similarly shaped artefacts found across the Southeast United States that vary in construction. They are named for their similarity to a surveyors plummet. They can be simple or have complex decoration. They are usually grooved and/or pierced at the top/ Archaeologists believe that despite their similar shape, they probably served many purposes. This object was found in the early 1960s on the mudflats where Town Shores is now located. Its size, design and simple construction make it a likely fishing weight."
