There are at least 10 children around and on the platform. "Joe Roberts built the town's first diving pier about 1927... It was located to the east of the Casino and the town pier, in an area not now used for swimming. Also in that era, some Gulfport people developed a new sport called water baseball, and the diving pier became the pitcher's mound, while the rest of the teams took up positions on the little rafts circling around it."
