"Edna Christman first became an unsalaried Gulfport police officer in 1944. Her title was "town hostess" and she was responsible for overseeing decorum at the beach, particularly among the children. During the war she also served as a plane spotter and practiced astrology. She served a two-year term on council in 1946-48, and continued her police position into the 1950s... William Jopson (police chief 1954-64 and mayor 1967-69) is second from the right." (Gabber Newspaper, December 3, 2009)Collection
