United States Post Office Department, Holiday Inn ApartmentsContext
"The building shown ..., known around here as the Holiday Inn, was built by Walter Brooks in 1925. Brooks, the town postmaster, needed a larger place to serve the needs of Gulfport's booming population, so he moved his original post office building around the corner to 5444 30th Avenue and constructed this new one at 3000 Beach Boulevard. In addition to being an "open air" post office, it also housed many different businesses over the years: restaurants, barber shops, beauty shops, grocery stores, and taverns."
