"The Gulfport streetcar line closed down in May 1949, the southernmost in the United States and the last in Florida to remain in operation. "Old No. 100" left St. Petersburg at midnight and arrived at the Casino 45 minutes later, where a crowd of people and a barbershop quartet sang its farewell. Automobile traffic had increased greatly following the war, and the trolleys were considered a hindrance to modern busses and cars, so they had to go." (Gabber Newspaper, April 8, 2010)Collection
