Algernon Sidney's core beliefs consisted of limited government, the right to revolution, popular sovereignty and consent of the governed. The ideas that Sydney promotes in this book, Discourses Concerning Government, influenced the Glorious Revolution. His published book has since been recognized to be “The textbook of the American Revolution” as he firmly stood for the rights of citizens to abolish or alter their corrupt government.
