Li Fenglan painted pictures on the outside of buildings to attract the attention of passersby and help further the government’s goals of making fields “bountiful.” One of these wall posters was reproduced on the PRC (Professional Regulation Commission) 1974 series of postage stamps. The painter states that she copied the image onto paper and that this painting hangs in her own apartment in order to remind her of one of the most important periods of her life. After a hiatus of several years, she returned to painting folk art. This painting speaks specifically to the government’s one-child policy.
