Label

In this painting Luo Zhijian recalls his mother’s warm relationship with her neighbor. Villagers did not often have close relations with neighbors due to grievances that could go back many generations. However, in the case of his mother and her neighbor, the two would become so involved in their conversations that they would forget what they were doing-eating lunch or feeding their chickens. The artist chose to place the low wall as a cross section in this painting to allow the women to look physically closer. The distortion in his mother’s head shows her significant attempt to pay attention to her neighbor while checking on her feeding child.
