Description

The 81st Grand Chapter Meeting (Conclave) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was held in Houston, Texas, from August 6–11, 2013, drawing nearly 15,000 members, supporters, and guests to the city. Centered on the theme “Impacting Communities: Making a Difference for the Next 100 Years,” the biennial gathering emphasized civic engagement and solutions to challenges facing the African-American community. The conclave featured service initiatives such as a partnership with Houston Habitat for Humanity to build a home, along with health fairs, job and professional school fairs, fatherhood workshops, and educational forums designed to provide practical resources for inner-city families. The event generated about $5 million in economic impact for Houston while leaving a lasting community benefit. During the meeting, Dr. Alvin Crawford received the Laurel Wreath Award, the fraternity’s highest honor for achievement and service. Overall, the 2013 Houston Conclave combined fraternity business, recognition of distinguished members, and large-scale community service—reinforcing Kappa Alpha Psi’s commitment to leadership, achievement, and social impact.
