Judge Carl Walker, Jr. is a native of Marlin, Falls County Texas, born May 13, 1924. He attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1942. In 1943 he was drafted into the United States Army Air Force and was honorably discharged March 16, 1946 at the grade of Sergeant.
In September 1946, Judge Walker entered Texas Southern University, Houston, Texas and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1950, and a Masters Degree in Economics in 1952. In 1955 he received a Doctor of Juris Prudence from Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Texas Southern University.
Brother Walker was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi on November 27, 1948 at the Beta Upsilon chapter (TSU). He was a member of the Houston Alumni Chaper where he served as Polemarch in 1980-81 and was awarded the Elder Watson Diggs medal in
2001.
Judge Walker served in an interim capacity as the first African American U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas. Appointed Assistant U.S. Attorney in 1961 by Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy (first African American to hold that position in the South). Judge Walker was a member of the Fifth Ward Missionary Baptist Church and chairman of the Trustee Board since 1960.
