Dr. Bobby Wilson, was initiated into ΚΑΨ at Beta Zeta chapter (Alabama State University) on November 23, 1963. He is a member of Houston Alumni chapter, and was honored with the 58th Laurel Wreath Award in 2005, the highest accolade in Kappa Alpha Psi for his significant contributions to science and community.
An environmental chemist and academic administrator, Dr. Wilson currently serves as the L. Lloyd Woods Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Shell Oil Endowed Chaired Professor of Environmental Toxicology at Texas Southern University, Houston, TX. Since 1976, he has held numerous roles at the university, including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor, Associate Dean, Interim Dean, Chair of the Chemistry Department, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Provost, and Acting President. Earlier in his career, Dr. Wilson taught at Jefferson Davis High School and Booker T. Washington High School in Montgomery, AL.
During his time with Texas Southern University, Dr. Wilson also served as a Visiting Research Professor ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company, Baytown, TX from 1982-1983 and a Program Director at the National Science Foundation, Washington, D.C. from 1996 until 1997. In addition to his work in education, he has had his research published on dozens of occasions, given more than 100 presentations to his industry peers, over 50 publications in peer reviewed Journals and advised over fifty MS and Ph.D. theses and dissertations. Dr. Wilson has also served as a Consultant for Houston Community College, Sam Houston State University, Alabama State University and many others.
Dr. Wilson honed his expertise in chemistry through a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Alabama State University in 1966. Continuing his studies, he went on to obtain a Master of Science in Chemistry from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1972 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry from Michigan State University in 1976.Photograph Details
