Irving B. Burch, Jr. (uncle of Sylvester Birch, Sr) was born in Houston, TX on September 4, 1900. His father Irving Sr. was a freed slave from Alabama who moved to Houston at age 12 in 1863. The Burch family operated a farm in the area that would become Dowling street (now Emancipation). Brother Burch attended Fisk University in Nashville, TN where he was initiated into Kappa Chapter on May 3, 1926. He was an educator and became principal of Roswell High School in Roswell, NM. His son Irving Burch III was initiated at Beta Upsilon in 1953. Brother Burch Jr. passed away on August 15, 1971 in Houston, TX.
