Figure glued to base. White glazed ceramic. Female figure holding disc in left hand. Barberini Hera (or Juno) is a Roman sculpture copied from a Greek original. Original excavated in Rome in the late 17th century and now in the Vatican Museums. Goddess of marriage, women and family, and the protector of women during childbirth. In Greek mythology, Hera (Juno) is queen of the twelve Olympians and Mount Olympus, sister and wife of Zeus, and daughter of the Titans Cronus and Rhea.
