Ceramic Mottled Whieldon Lion

Name/Title

Ceramic Mottled Whieldon Lion

Entry/Object ID

HM-600

Description

English late 18th century Rockwood Pottery figure of lion; mottled brown; sinister front flank is cracked behind knee. Possibly from the family of Whieldon-ware-style pieces. Note - No information can be found about listed “Rockwood Pottery.” Can't be Rookwood Pottery because Rookwood is American not English and founded in the late 19thc not 18thc. Mottled glazing doesn’t resemble Rookwood pieces. 1965 Probate Inventory - Lower Guestroom 2024 - broken, pieces stored in Irene's Closet
