Description

15thc French Gothic Candelabrum Wrought iron with curved hooks at top and near top 2 arms with candle holder cups with drip trays 3 curved legs The arms are connected and can be moved upwards and downwards to adjust the height of the candles. They slot into grooves on the back of the center stem. Set of 4, each in two parts: a.) stand, triple-footed, flat molded circular feet, slight serpentine shape to back. b.) holders, adjustable to height, 2 on each stand in simple half-circle design. "Acquired by Henry Davis Sleeper (1878-1934) about 1907 and installed in 1908 on the mantel and side tables in Beauport’s Medieval Hall (present-day China Trade Room). Photographed in situ in Beauport by Thomas Marr in 1910. Sold or gifted to JHH Jr in Summer of 1922 when HDS dismantled the Medieval Hall.
