Description

15th c Amiens. Facades of Lower Butcher Shop & Upper Tavern Medieval building facade from Amiens, France - possibly from 2 separate buildings, but recent scholarship points to one building with tavern in upper level since windows match on both levels. In two main sections, five casement windows, one door, carvings about door and windows of men holding cow, pig, bird, fish, eggs; on the second floor, men holding tools, wares and musical instruments, grapevines twining around. Two different storefronts are placed on top of each other in this facade. .1 - Bottom facade belonged to a butcher shop; this is evident from the various types of animals being held up the figures. .2 - Top facade belonged to a tavern; this is evident from the various types of figures depicting, thus claiming that everyone is welcome to this tavern. Purchased from the Parisian art dealer Auguste Decour on 1926-08-09 Window glass bought by Hammond in Bologna and reportedly from Monte Cassino
