Epitaph of Pontia Procilla. Marble altar 2nd c. Roman funerary memorial pedestal faces and figures carved in triangular fashion at the top corners. Originally displayed in 2nd gallery, later moved near pool at bridge steps TRANSCRIPTION D(is) M(anibus). Pontia Procilla fec(it) sibi et suis pos= terisq(ue) eius et Pon= 5tiae Zosime et coniugi eius Pom= peio Felici poste= risq(ue) eorum. TRANSLATION To the Divine Spirits. Pontia Procilla made (this) for herself, and for her own, and for her descendants, and for Pontia Zosime and her husband Pompeius Felix and their descendants [USEP HCM.L.Tmp97.6.39] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Translation of inscription (by Naomi Kline): To the deified shades Pontial Procilla made (this memorial) for herself and her (family) and for her descendants, and for Pontia Zosime and her husband and their descendants.
