TRANSLATION Ulpia Felicitas lived for nineteen years [USEP HCM.L.Tmp97.6.61] -------------------------------------------------------------- Translation (by Naomi Kline): "ULPIA FELICITAS VIX(it) ANN(is) XIX" "Ulpia Felicitas. She lived nineteen years" Notes (by Naomi Kline): The stone has a portrait of a young woman, facing front, with hair in braid coiled on the head. The name is that of a freedwoman, or daughter of a freedman. Several examples of this name occur. A columbarium on the Via Praenestina was built by a freedman of Marcus Aurelius, and his wife who had this name. Reportedly 1st century from Via Appia (Rome) Questionable authenticity according to correspondence with Dr. Guntram Koch on July 11, 1978. Professor Koch mentions that he would need to see the actual object to be certain. (see catalogue card.)
