13th c. French Knights Templar Double Window

Name/Title

13th c. French Knights Templar Double Window

Entry/Object ID

HM-413

Description

Carved stone window with 2 sections - double lancet. Shield & flower under arches. French, circa 13th century From Knights Templars' Palace in France, probably destroyed in 1314 by King Philippe the Fair. (This was listed as coming from Avignon, France, but there was not a Templar commandery in Avignon. This could be a mistaken reference to Aveyron, France where there was a commandery at La Couvertoirade. The nearest commandery to Avignon is the commandery of Richerenches).
