Description

Boxy & thick star lock with enclosed mechanisms. Top is broader than the bottom, and has three "tasseled" points while the bottom is square. Unusual six-sided star cut for the bit in the keyhole. Spirals around keyhole. Lower decoration reminiscent of upside down gothic window tracery. Iron frontispiece, bottom and backing, but middle is made of wood. Frontispiece thought to be made using a mold due to regularity of details (bottom "window" decorations, crosshatching on tassels, width and details of border, etc.). Back secured with modern Phillips screws.
