Austin Organ Console

Name/Title

Austin Organ Console

Entry/Object ID

HM-145.1

Description

Austin organ console and bench. Fourth organ console to be used for Hammond's organ and last one during Hammond's lifetime.. This console was built by Austin in the 1920s, then bought by Hammond for the castle from a church. It was then modified in 1947 by Austin to be a 4 manual with new stops. The year Virgil Fox lived in the castle, he had the console moved downstairs and had the case of the console replaced with a light colored wood. The stops and keyboards etc. were still the originals. This was replaced in 1985 with the current Skinner-Bolten console. It was disassembled & is in the organ storage areas.
