Description

Pompeii Bronze Cooking Set with five pieces Reproduction purchased by Hammond in Pompeii a) Table; triple-footed, enclosed at base, legs in the form of running dog with paw at bottom; circular top b) Tray; square with built-in area for pitcher and cooking pot; four legs in shape of an animal; at each corner there is a winged torso and head; five half-circle handles on the sides; back two legs are attached to the table top c) Pitcher; sits in the back left of the tray; etched turnings; spout in form of man's head; attached top which has ball design thumbpiece; includes a dotted and rope pattern edging with a woman's head as center finial d) Pot; open wide mouth with attached horizontal handle which is removable from its stand at the right back of tray which is constructed in the shape of the backs of three birds; includes man's face for side-spout e) Half-dome shaped object; Solid; horizontal handle; three scenes in low relief on side; flat bottom SOLD 1990s
