Entry/Object ID

Description
"The cope is a semi-circular shaped cape which originated
as an outer garment worn for protection from rain or
cold during travel or processions, but was established as a
purely liturgical garment in the thirteenth century. The
hood was therefore changed from a protective piece of
cloth to a decorative flap." [N Kline, 1977]
