16th c. Palermo Arched Center-Open Door with 8 Scenes Walnut door from Palermo, Italy, composed of 2 panels opening in center; scalloped borders for individual scenes. Gothic and Moorish influence with scenes depicting local legends a. Left: (top to bottom) 1. 2 male figures, one child, tree background 2. Battle of 2 winged birds, head of left bird missing 3. Female figure, 2 children, left arm of middle figure missing 4. Battle of 3 cloven footed figures b. Right: (top to bottom) 1. Two large male figures, one child. 2. One female figure and two children with surprised expressions. 3. Battle between a winged animal and satyr figure. 4. Male and female figures plus two children.
