BeauportDescription
18thc Steeple-cup, dome top surmounted by animal on hind legs holding shield or coat-of-arms. Single band at base of top with slightly flared lip. Center portion in a trumpet shape. Decorated at center with a low relief oval design: knight's head in armor, side view, with a shield with a double diamond device. Flared base connected by thin-stemmed column, ball at center, double turnings at bottom.
"Acquired by Henry Davis Sleeper (1878-1934) about 1907 and installed in 1908 in Beauport’s Medieval Hall (present-day China Trade Room). Photographed in situ in Beauport by Thomas Marr in 1910.
Sold or gifted to JHH Jr in Summer of 1922 when HDS dismantled the Medieval Hall.
