Description

4.5" x 6.5" b/w photo on poster board of Darius R. Stoker of the 21st OVI. Darius was born to Jacob and Mary (Pence) Stoker on December 27, 1836 in Hancock County. Darius enlisted in the service of the Union Army during the Civil War on September 19, 1861 in Company F, Twenty-First Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was at the battle of Stone River, near Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and was wounded. He recovered and was honorably discharged after two years’ service. When he returned home from the Army, he worked hard owning one hundred and forty-three acres of land in Liberty Township. He married Miss Mary Strother on October 13, 1863. They had four children; Clemma, Viola, Luella, and Arthur. Darius passed away on October 19, 1919, and was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery.
