A photocopy of a page from the 1920 Milestones yearbook, containing the first reference to George Washington's birthday celebration. Students "assumed the roles of Colonial dames and gentlemen" in costume, ate and sang together, and danced a minuet in Heron Hall.

Context

The George Washington Day Celebration was a tradition that began at Belmont College for Young Women, developed into a costume ball and dance at Ward-Belmont, and was transferred to Harpeth Hall, where it continued as a special all-school program performed by Middle School students until 2020.
