Description

A costume dress worn by a student playing the role of a lady in the George Washington Day Celebration. Students played either a solider, a sailor, or a lady or gentleman. Ladies and gentlemen performed a minuet.

Context

The George Washington Day Celebration was a tradition that began at Belmont College for Young Women, developed into a costume ball and dance at Ward-Belmont, and was transferred to Harpeth Hall, where it continued as a special all-school program performed by Middle School students until 2020.
