Entry/Object ID

Description

A letter that originally contained a pledge check for the Alumnae Fund, a campaign aimed at raising money to buy Ward-Belmont back from the Tennessee Baptist Convention. This alumna also mentions how shocking the news of the sale was and that it appears as though Ward-Belmont was hiding something from the WB community or refused to acknowledge the actual situation that they were in.

Context

Upon hearing the news of Ward-Belmont's transfer of ownership to the Tennessee Baptist Convention, many WB alumnae gave their unwavering support to the school and asked few questions before donating to the Alumnae Fund. However, some alumnae felt that the sale of WB could have been prevented if the Board of Trustees had been honest with themselves and the WB community about their dire financial situation. These alumnae believe the sale could have been prevented if the Board had asked for financial support from willing alumnae rather than selling the school to the highest bidder.
