Pauline Sherwood Townsend was the Director of the Ward-Belmont School of Expression. She graduated from the New England Conservatory and pursued postgraduate studies at the Boston School of Expression. Per the 1928 Milestones yearbook, "the students in one of the largest departments of the school [i.e. Expression] receive much real pleasure as well as immeasurable help and inspiration in Dramatics, Pageantry, and Public Speaking" from Townsend and her assistant, Miss Catharine A. Winnia. Townsend directed annual religious pageants at Christmas and Easter, and many Shakespearean plays.Collection
