Description

A blue and orange/yellow Ward-Belmont pennant. Inscribed on the school seal are "Ward-Belmont," "Nashville Tennessee," and the years 1865 (inaugural year of Ward Seminary for Young Ladies), 1890 (inaugural year of Belmont College for Young Women), and 1913 (inaugural year of Ward-Belmont College). The inner seal is inscribed with WS (Ward Seminary) and BC (Belmont College), with the words "uniting" and "continuing" indicating the merging of these two institutions to form Ward-Belmont College.

Context

Emily Vivian Finklea Kelly (née Finklea), originally from Monroeville, Alabama, graduated from the Ward-Belmont preparatory school in 1947 and went on to earn her General Diploma from the Ward-Belmont junior college in 1949. While at Ward-Belmont College, Finklea participated in the Anti-Pandora social club, Music Club (1948), German Club (’48-’49), Chemistry Club (1949), and Biology Club (1949). Her leadership positions included President of Fidelity Hall (1949), Treasurer of Anti-Pandora (1949), C. G. O. Council (1949), and Y. W. C. A. Cabinet (1949). She went on to marry Ralph L. Kelly.
